The 2nd Annual Taylor’s Closet Gala Benefit & Fashion Show

On Saturday, October 18 we got together with about 250 of our closest friends and had the biggest party in Taylor’s Closet’s history. It was unbelievable.

The fashion show was held in a hangar at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (one of our good friends donated it to us for the evening). It was like a runway at the runway (get it).

Some of the models were girls we’ve gotten to know through the store. Some of the models were members of our Advisory Board. All of the clothes came straight out of the Taylor’s Closet inventory. Everything they wore that night was the real deal - first hand designer fashions.

Everyone in my family had a chance to say something - even Justin. And we had a special guest fly down from New York just for the event - Don Jones is an amazing man who has decided to come along side of us and help out. You’ll be hearing more about Don in the next months and years.

There are SO many people I need to thank for helping to put this event on that I’ll probably have to put a separate page together just for them. But I need to let each of you know, if you’re reading this, that what you have done means the world to me. And the effect of your generosity on this ministry - and on the girls we minister to, is unfathomable.

And I also want to thank all of our donors. We are truly overwhelmed by you and your hearts. I know most of you expressed to me that you didnt want any publicity or anything so I wont mention your names. But you are amazing.

Can you believe this!!!

Taylor’s Closet is going to be moving into new digs!  This whole story is wild.  The truth is, its really too much to tell here except for two things:

1)  God REALLY has his hand in this ministry.  And,

2)  He REALLY cares for girls who are in need, at-risk, or just not near Him.

Ok, short version:  A few months ago we were meeting with the Pastor of a local church, talking about Taylor’s Closet and the possibility of taking some space in one of their buildings  (We’re running out of room in our existing space).  We were just kind of sitting there chatting when the Pastor stops and goes “Hey, here’s an idea … we love what you guys are doing.  What if you took over the whole building?”

Wha???

So here we are, leases, permits, renovations, etc.  The whole project is a walk of faith.  Its a big job.  Expensive.  We’re getting donations from contractors and subcontractors, suppliers, fixture people, furniture - everything.

I’ll post more on the building project as we go.  This is going to be monumental.

There are 32,000 girls at-risk here in South Florida.  We intend to reach every one of them.  This new building is a great start at doing just that.

Clothing Donations

If you’re a teenage girl (11-19) and you have clothes that either just don’t fit you anymore or for some reason, you just don’t wear anymore, then consider donating them to bless a girl in foster care.

Just make sure their in good-to-great condition please.

From time to time, we put out requests for certain kinds of clothing or certain brands, so please check back every so often to see where the needs are.

Directions:

We are located on the west side State Road 7 (441) between Atlantic Blvd. and Commercial Blvd. There is a very large American Flag in the parking lot of The 2nd Chance Thirft Store. You can park in this parking lot. Taylor’s Closet is located in the upper level of that building. If you proceed to the southwest corner of the building, you will see a 4 Kids of S. Florida sign near a door. Proceed to the upper level and you will see a Taylor’s Closet sign that will direct you to the store.

I was raised by a single mom with little to no money and know how difficult it can be for those girls. I nearly became a teen mom at 14 and was shown what my life could have been. My small town sent girls away 60 miles to a group home. I am very interested in getting involved in your cause. Please let me know how I can help open a store here.

I saw your story on Geraldo at Large. I cried and it touched me deeply. I wish there was something like that available when I was growing up … I am grateful for the little we had though. God does provide as long as we believe in him and trust in Him!!!

Often times, when kids come in to foster care, they are taken away from their homes and families with literally no notice and only the clothes or pajamas they are wearing at the time. It’s usually a very scary thing for a kid to deal with.

Taylor’s Closet’s mission is touch less fortunate girls with the love of their Father by giving them a little hope and love in the form of some nice new clothes.  In the process we’re proving to them that that are valuable.  And they are lovely.  And that somebody actually cares.

In Matthew 25:36 Jesus directs us to care for those who are having a tough time.

This year, Taylor’s Closet will be reaching deeper into their hearts and lives through a whole series of life-skills and mentoring programs.  In the process, we’ll be partnering with foundations, churches, ministries and agencies to create a network to care for these kids.  Its an ambitious undertaking.  But the most worthwhile ones usually are.

In South Florida alone there are more than 32,000 girls in “at-risk” situations.

We intend to reach every one of them.
